It's been quite a year. I started blogging and reading up on personal finances in February of '07. I had two goals when I began: get out of debt, and finish my novel. Through
a lot of hard work, encouragement from bloggers like JD, and help from my writing community, I've traveled a long way towards both goals. In the last couple of months, I finished the novel (re-writes to come!) and paid off almost $12K in debt! I paid off my car loan, getting rid of that 9% APR, so I now own my little Civic, free and clear! My Visa and Mastercard loans shrank from $8,400 to $2,400 (and I plan to get the rest paid off soon!). The biggest thing for me has been all the
small things: small steps towards my goals have taken me farther than my biggest dreams ever did. A page or two a day turned into a 450 page novel. A few dollars here and there erased $12k in debt.
I haven't finished my journey; in fact the exciting thing is I now know that the journey doesn't end, it just evolves! As I firm up my finances, I can consider buying... gasp... investment property! Now that I'm done with this draft of my novel, I'm into the dreaded revisions, and looking at the market to see who might eventually buy my baby. '07 was a fun year, and I hope '08 will be even better!
P.S. -- I still can't spell, however. If you see massive errors in spelling and grammar, don't worry, I have a friend who's a professional editor, and she goes over my stuff
