congrats :)

since i guess i've got a bit of a head start on you, let me know if you want to compare minimalist baby item lists. we're doing this in a small apartment, and i'm feeling confident in what we have as of now. this may be subject to change in short order though!

Update:
1) 401K up to employer match - $2826/$7140 (39.6%)
2) Max IRA - $1510/$5000 (30.2%)
3) Emergency fund - $7975/$10,000 (79.8%)
4) Baby fund - $6127/$10,000 (61%)

Baby fund stayed the same because we paid the big deposit this month. Still making progress.

Also got add'l life insurance through the GUL at work. Seemed like a cheap/reasonable stop gap measure until I can apply for an independent term policy through somewhere else. Planning to tackle that post-pregnancy.

As far as the rest of prep/plans - Things go. Trying to just get a little done each week. Last weekend saw the bare bones of a nursery come together. That seemed big. This week is mostly about me learning to manage gestational diabetes. Yay. Oh well.

First congrats on your little one! This is an exciting time in your lives. We are expecting our first this month.

I just wanted to share that seeing your post is one of the reasons I joined GRS. I found this website by googling “personal finance.” I feel like we've just been cruising along the last 6 months to a year. Thanks for encouraging me to be more involved in my finances. I’d like to learn more about investments and IRA’s. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

~ Eagle

2) Max IRA - $1928/$5000 (38.6%)
3) Emergency fund - $8280/$10,000 (82.8%)
4) Baby fund - $7135/$10,000 (71.4%)

Mostly in autopilot over the last month. Only one major purchase - a new camera, that was mostly paid for by various gifts/awards.

Baby shower was yesterday, so now we'll start looking at what we have and really figure out what we need to fill in the holes. Another shower at work at the end of the month, but I expect that to mostly be a gift card, which will be super useful over time.

4) Baby fund - $7639/$10,000 (76.4%)

Only made one transfer to the baby fund this month - left the rest in checking to cover the last of our pre-baby purchases. Think we're about as ready as we're going to be. (Which is probably not actually all that ready. ;) )

You are really coming along on your goals!
I guess this month the baby is due, so here's hoping to a successful and fairly easy delivery!
You're in a good place. Wishing you the best!

And one more exclamation point just because! hee hee.

you can only be so prepared before the storm hits :) - go out and see a movie or do dinner, enjoy the last moments of spontaneity you're going to see for a loooong time! good luck!

I created a list of dates for us to do as a couple. Then I cut the list up by each fun event. Then we randomly picked one out of a box for the last few months before the baby came... See a list of fun things to do on this thread .

Also stock up on Diapers, Wipes, and Burpy Cloths. ;) Don't worry it will all work out.

Well, baby came exactly on schedule. Born on her due date July 22nd at 3:56pm, 6 lbs 6oz, and 19 in long. She seems impossibly tiny...

And have already proved it's a good thing I'm a saver. Got my paystub for my upcoming paycheck in the mail, and they've messed up my status, showing me as already out on unpaid leave (when I'm not taking any formal leave), so my paycheck will be about 1/3 of the usual next week and nothing after that. Started calling around to get it fixed, but might be a while. Added stress on top of the normal exhaustion/stress/etc.

yay, congrats!!!

take lots of pictures when she is this small. it won't be long and you will hardly believe that she was once so tiny! i don't know how my little guy has gotten so big in 2 months. hang in there with the finances, and focus on recovery and enjoying getting to know your daughter. :)
