Nope, you got it. I know what he is saying but that has nothing to do with my initial comment that having more than ABOUT 2.1 kids is adding to world population growth.

(sigh) Well that is dissapointing. My bad then I guess? Okay so moving on. ;)

No. Your initial comment was that people should only have 1 or 2 kids, and I responded by saying, and correctly I might add, that this would result in the eventual demise of our species.

You then decided to get uppity and pull out the 2.1 number, which is clearly higher than 1.5, and tell me you are right because its math. Of course, this is after I was repeatedly referred as being selfish for suggesting that an advantage to having children would be that you would have an advocate should you ever become mentally disabled.

To recap the thread...

1) 1 or 2 children apparently means "more than 2"(2.1)
2) Suggesting that people should reproduce to avoid the demise of the human race = religious nonsense.
3) Suggesting that your children might one day be there to prevent their mentally feeble parents from being taken advantage of(not that this is a REASON to have children, but that it is a possible ADVANTAGE) makes you horrible and selfish.

Did I miss anything?

Savarel you missed the following:

4) DoingHomework has no children.
5) kombat has no children and believes having children ends the possibility of having "fun" in life.

It's total nonsense. The fact is, the human race is obviously not under threat of extinction due to underpopulation. We have far, far too many people.

If someday, several generations from now, the population dwindled, then yes "reproducing to avoid the demise of the human race" might be a valid reason to have kids. But in the context of reality, and the current demographics, it's utter nonsense.

It also makes you naive, as I suspect the majority of senior exploitation is done by one's own children. I would say having kids increases your risk of having an unscrupulous individual perfectly positioned to take financial advantage of you. Having known you their whole life, they'd also be uniquely able to detect the moment your mind starts slipping and you'd become vulnerable to their manipulation.

It's like keeping a gun in the house for "protection," but ignoring the statistics that of those that end up being used, the vast majority end up being used against the owner themselves (suicide), or another family member (domestic violence).

To quote a famous authority figure:

"I like children. If they are properly cooked."

Lol. Wow. W.C. Fields quote?

http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/82951.W_C_Fields

W. C. Fields (born William Claude Dukenfield) was an American juggler, comedian, and actor. Fields created one of the great American comic personas of the first half of the 20th century—a misanthrope who teetered on the edge of buffoonery but never quite fell in, an egotist blind to his own failings, a charming drunk; and a man who hated children, dogs, and women, unless they were the wrong sort of women.

The most amusing thing is that you found it on the same site that I did when trying to verify the exact quote.

I suppose we should add to your list of reasons to have children - as emergency rations in case of calamity.
