Hmm, I seem to have had the fewest jobs so far. Post college (96 graduate) I have had 3 jobs, all in the field of mental health.

That probably just means you're younger, more stable, more focused, or luckier than the rest of us; or some combination of those qualities ;-)

A lof of my jobs were jobs I had to take because I needed work. They weren't jobs I would have taken if I'd had the choice, it's just that I had no choice at the time.

Agree. That list of jobs has spanned over 20 years in my case. And, several of the jobs were with the same company, just different positions. However, that said, I will admit that I get bored and leave jobs that don't challenge me.

I hope my post didn't come off wrong. I'm not implying that having fewer jobs is better. I was just surprised that people seem to have held many jobs in a variety of fields.

Fewer jobs is better in the cases that Brad mentioned, but certainly not always.

If anyone feels like posting their pay, I think that'd be interesting. Mine won't be spellbinding because I've only been working for 7 years, but $5.15/hour seems pretty petty, even for 2000.

Starting at 16:
-Office asst. for x-ray technician (that was a random two summers). 5.15/hour
-Data entry temp at industrial farm. 9$/hour
-Landscaping for university as a student $7.60-$9.50/hour
-Intern for Sierra Club, others. Volunteer. (I don't know if it counts as a job, but I had to quit my other job to do it...)
-Energy conservation intern. 10$/hour
-Sustainability intern. 10$/hour
-Now: Sustainability/energy "coordinator". ~$17-18/hour

So if I keep tripling my wage every 7 years, I'll be making about $4100/hour by age 60. Sweet!

Interesting story behind my first job was that my mom graciously "doubled" my wages one summer, if I chose to invest that money. No goals or purpose (my mom's not much for investing...my late father and our financial planner did most of that work), but my mom's best friend told her that the investment guy at the bank she managed would handle it. He did...between loads, fees, and an amazing bear market, it lost about 50% of its value. Ha! Occasionally, I ask my mom to get this money out so I can do something intelligent with it, and she promptly forgets. I might do a "The Story of $2000" post when I get the full history. Tragic and hilarious.

Hostess at Applebee's
Waitress at Olive Garden
Various on-campus jobs (academic mentor, research assistant, lab TA, work study in an office...)
