First, the rave: I found my own apartment. I sign the lease on Friday. This means that I will no longer have to live with the psycho chick who emotionally abuses her husband, I can go back to my old cooking patterns, I'll live in a neighborhood more conducive to meeting people and I don't have to share a bathroom any more. YAY!

Next, the rant: Moving cross-country is bloody expensive and a big pain in the butt! Everyone cross your fingers that my friends can help me load/unload so I don't have to hire movers...

On the whole though, the rave outweighs the rant.

What made you decide to move cross-country. That's a big decision!

My new place is in NW...great location between 20 & 21st. I sign my lease Friday and will stay there that night. Saturday morning I fly to Chicago and from there on to DC where I'll pack up my stuff and send it back here. I get back to Portland on the 4th. My stuff should arrive around the 11th of October. YAY!

I got sick of DC. I do a pretty big move every 3-4 years but this is the first time where I had to move major stuff. Before I didn't have any furniture of value so I just got rid of everything. Now it would cost much more to replace than to move so it's more complicated.

Besides my move to/from Europe this is my longest distance move. My next-longest would be from Chicago-Phoenix but that time I just loaded up the back of my mom's SUV and we drove my stuff out.

I will say, I got a good deal on a mover though. My move is going to cost me about $1600 which isn't bad at all. If I did it on my own, just the Uhaul would have cost over $1800 and that doesn't include tax, gas, food, hotels, tolls, etc. So I can't complain too much.

Where is NW? I'm pretty up to date on my state abbreviations.
