Citibank is screwing us over this month.

Basically, we are being charged a late fee from 2005, and the weren't going to notify us in any way other than the e-statement, that offers no explanation, merely lists a late fee, and a $50 increase in the automatic deduction.

Strange. Did you check to make sure that they didn't somehow forget to record a payment? It happed to us with my wifes car. Nissan was charging us late fees every month for a year and we didn't know it until we checked her credit report before buying our house. It turns out that they never recorded a payment. I was able to find an image of the canceled check and get the problem rectified but it was a pain in the ass.

My wife called (it's her loan) and they said it was an error made in 2005. I don't think I have records back that far.

Morydd, did you get my e-mail? Would it be okay to post your blog entry to GRS (with credit, of course)?

Absolutely. I can get you screen caps of the Citibank site when I get home of the Nov and Oct statements as well.

(Notwithstanding the fact that I want to make sure anyone else this affects isn't surprised by it, there's no way I'm turning down a link from a site with GRS's traffic. :) )

Wow. That sounds plain wrong. No notice? I hope we do get to put this out there. You may also want to post this to the consumerist

I've already sent it to them as well. While I hope noone else is really having this happen to them, I'm curious to see if I can get verification.

Sean, screencaps would be great. I'll probably just one, but it doesn't hurt to have a couple to choose from.

I just remembered that since I've got my account on IMAP, my sent mail is accessible. So I uploaded the screenshots to flickr.

October Statement: http://flickr.com/photos/morydd/1894262166/
November Statement: http://flickr.com/photos/morydd/1894262184/

Feel free to use as you see fit.

The automatic payment to Citibank went through yesterday... for the usual amount. Not the amount with the late fee.

I look at the account detail page and it shows the usual payment recieved on the 10th, and no late fees. What the heck.

So I don't know what's going on here. I'll have to have my wife call again and see if they tell her anything. If they don't provide useful information, I think I'll write a letter requesting confirmation that the current balance reflects all fees and paid current. (Any help with wording such a letter would be appreciated, so that if they come back later claiming we still owe "late fees", we can prove that they said that we do not.)

Conusmerist picked this up too. http://consumerist.com/consumer/complai ... 328630.php

The December statement is showing a late fee too, and we never got the letter we were promised from CitiBank. I'm getting very annoyed.
