17 Free Things To Do When You’re Bored and Broke

All your life, you may have never realised how expensive being bored really is. Personally, as long as I have some gadgets around (yes that’s my vice) I’m never really that bored, but I am human, and I do suffer from boredom sometimes. So today, I decided to do some research and list the 17 best ideas for what to do when you have no money and are bored.

17 Free Things To Do When You're Bored & Broke

1. Read

Catch up on some reading. If you don’t have any books to read, download the free kindle software from Amazon and find free books on the Kindle store. 🙂

2. Music Is A Saviour

Put on your favorite album from your favourite artist or load up a playlist on YouTube and just lose yourself in the music. Trust me; time will fly!

3. Play Board Games

If there is somebody close by that is also bored with you; suggest whipping out a board game and going head to head. A classic like Monopoly will always kill two hours of time easily.

4. Gardening

I really enjoy planting spices and herbs but don’t think I have a garden; I live in a very tiny apartment. You don’t actually need a garden. You can use pots, plastic cups, foil dishes, whatever. FYI: Some easy to grow produce are garlic, basil, onions & chilli peppers! 🙂

5. Work On Your Hobby

You’re always complaining how you don’t have time to enjoy your hobbies, well here is your chance! If you’re looking for a new hobby, I got you right here.

6. Make a list

I love lists. Download Wunderlist and start planning out lists. Make a shopping list, goals, tasks, meetings etc…

7. Read blogs

Most of my activities are online, so it’s only natural that whenever I’m feeling bored, I log into my Feedly account and catch up on some of my favorite blogs. I suggest you get a Feedly account as well as all the new posts from a blog you follow will be waiting for you there.

8. Visit Museums

Museums usually have a free day once a week or month. I suggest you check out the specific places’ website and plan it ahead but beware as it may be too crowded on the free days.

9. Start a home business

Unlike what many people may think. You can actually start a business with 0 capital. All it takes is some effort to get the ball rolling. I discussed how I started my online business on a budget here.

10. Quality Time With Family

If you’re feeling bored, spend some time with the people close to you. Catch up, ask how their life is going, talk about goals, work, the weather, whatever!

11. Do some cleaning

There’s always someplace on top of a wall unit or a dark, unknown corner somewhere that needs cleaning. If you’re bored but feeling productive I suggest you get to cleaning.

12. DIY

Do some crafts with common household item. If you’re looking for some inspiration, check out my Pinterest board.

13. Meditate

If you would like to kill some time, learn how to meditate; relax your body and mind. I could never do this, I tried but always fail miserably at it. But most people love it and they find lots of positive side effects from it. Why don’t you give it a go?

14. Workout

Go for a walk or jog. Do some at-home workout exercises. YouTube is filled with them. Get moving. Time will pass quicker than you think 🙂

15. Start A Blog

Blogging is simply one of the cheapest, most entertaining hobby one can get to. Start a blog to write down your thoughts and share them with the world. It will keep you busy coming up with new content ideas and writing them out. Always remember to blog about what you’re passionate in, that way blogging itself never gets boring.

16. Volunteer

If you don’t know what you’re gonna do with your time, somebody else may have a need for it. Consider doing some volunteer work to help others in need. It’s a very admirable thing to do and you would feel much better after doing it. Google “volunteer work in your city” and I’m sure you’ll find somewhere to invest your time in 🙂

17. Raid the App Store

A super fun thing I do when I get bored is browse the app store for the hottest new apps. My favourite free app right now is Clumsy Ninja. I usually get lost downloading and trying out the free apps. An hour could go by without even realising it!

Great post! I tend to listen to music and rave in my room like I’m in a club when I’m bored and I love it! I read blogs often, including yours 🙂 and writing posts for mine and networking tends to keep boredom at bay.
