One year my grandmother made me a jar of homemade pickles. I loved that gift so much and savored each and every dill.They were tasty, but the part I savored was knowing that she made them for me. Twenty years later what I would give to have another jar! Homemade can be the best kind of gift!

Wow, Rain-X really works? Must try.

My favourite tool is the OpenX at http://www.myopenx.com. This is the gift for everyone who hates opening up plastic blister packs (which is to say, everyone). $5. I hadn’t thought of just getting one for everyone - I like this idea.

I have done the favorite things idea before. I, too, have given pizza cutters (as wedding gifts)–the secret is you need the kind with the big cutting wheel–four inches across, not two.

Also, Rain-X has been a stocking stuffer. This one works best if you do the first application for the recipient. That stuff really makes it possible to see out the car window during heavy downpours.

Also, the kinds of fingernail clippers that catch the clippings instead of shooting them across the room were stocking stuffers for everyone one year.

Folks who play video games get Psychonauts.

There were a bunch of great ideas there, and I concur with your wife, JD–Amberlynn’s idea is excellent. Recording family history for future generations–while at the same time working together and strengthening current family ties– really is priceless.

Now that’s inspiring! My kids are too little to appreciate it now, but if we can start putting together resources like that now (before their grandparents pass away), what a gift when they’re adults…

I liked the experiences idea. But a handmade gift will go that much further because of the time and effor that has gone into it. I know I appreciate them that much more and I enjoy the process of making the gifts.
